3 Reasons to Select PaaS points out the shortcomings which were prominent in initial days of PaaS model, has gone away making PaaS more consumable. PaaS came with offers but no standards – initially the big providers presented strategies for Platform as a Service – but the model for user had risks and virtually the usage was limited to the developers only.

3 Reasons to Select PaaS : The Current Scenario

The current scenario has rapidly changed, making PaaS more consumable. In 2011, many manufacturers of enterprise software disclosed their own strategies for Platform as a service offerings (PaaS) and new technologies for PaaS. These companies includes IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, SAP, Red Hat, Salesforce and VMware. Some of them announced PaaS offerings at the end of 2012 the market. In 2013, there were drastic changes, many wanted to shift from SaaS – this added a plus point too.

No standards, no best practices Were Most Prominent Point Among 3 Reasons of Avoiding PaaS

However, the PaaS market is growing again this year, although not yet out of its infancy. There is still no established market leader making it most suitable to eliminate the branding bias, experience of making the best use of PaaS is growing and best practices or established technology standards are growing. As before, the introduction of PaaS is no longer associated with uncertainty and risks for businesses. Contrary to the generous promises provider of PaaS market was uncertain and volatile till middle of 2013.

Market researchers also see light at the end of the tunnel. In the coming years, they predict a significant growth in this market sector. All major software vendors have market-ready PaaS product offerings in the portfolio by now. By 2016, there will also be new programming models that will form the basis of new technological standards. With increasing standardization of PaaS offerings with the chance to sit at the top of the market, the input from providers are also increasing.

  1. Most PaaS has a Free Quota – RedHat OpenShift, Heroku, AppFog – to name the mostly used PaaS providers has a Free Quota enough even to run a small personal blog.
  2. More control than SaaS – SaaS definitely unacceptable model at this open market, PaaS reduces the cost of self hosted Free Softwares.
  3. Open Source / Free Software Backend – F/OSS was mainly used for IaaS – OpenStack being the best example. But with AppFog PaaS started the successful F/OSS model and obviously OpenShift helped it to grow faster. Its really easy to add own Git repo as source both on localhost and online. Test and Real Deployment is easier with F/OSS.
