Why schema.org Official Website Has No itemscope and itemtype Schema – an apparently innocent reader has asked this question, possibly out of her innocence but it does serious adds a curiousness to our mind as well. Yes, it is fully true that at the time of publishing this article, there is no sign of any semantic markup in the whole schema.org Official Website. We are unable to provide a pinpoint answer to the question why schema.org official website has no itemscope and itemtype Schema, but some logical explanation can be laid.

schema.org Official Website Has No itemscope and itemtype Schema Because its an Official Online Documentation of an Initiative

schema.org website simply defines the schema and uses simple URLs which we refer to within itemtype, like in the case of Diet :

It is quite likely that the webpages of schema.org Official Website will be frequently read by human readers as well as various types of search engine and other bots (please do not read the linked webpage’s links to recommendations for robots.txt, they are few years old and has lost the merit with time, only read the linked article).

It is important to keep the webpage very simple and fast loading. The website itself do not need to be crawled or indexed. The website’s whole intention is to make a machine readable as well as human readable reference point.

Why schema.org Official Website Has No itemscope and itemtype Schema : Partially Wrong Observation

schema.org Official Website Has No itemscope and itemtype

If you use Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool or any Self Hosted Schema.org and Microformats Free Checking Tool to test the homepage of schema.org Official Website or docs pages, they will return you nothing. But if you head to any particular Schema :

Vim
1
http://schema.org/Event

And run a test, you’ll see for the above example, the extracted structured data is showing up Event with URL as a subClassOf “Thing” in rdfa data. So, while it is true that schema.org Official Website Has No itemscope and itemtype Schema but not fully true that there is no markup.
