Commonly These Days, Many Classic Circuits We Show as Recreated on Arduino. That is Probably Good For Who Already Used With Basic Electronic Components But So For the Beginners. We Can Blink Two LEDs Alternatively With 555 IC With Simple Circuit and Minimal Basic Electronic Components. Of course, we can blink two LEDs in programmatic way with Arduino and blink one LED with 555 IC. We hope that our regular users will be helped with this kind of guides of creating same end result in old IC way and programmatic way.

We are reproducing a circuit diagram created by another website, that circuit is really easy and versatile :

From the left side of the circuit diagram, following components are used :

---

9V battery
220 Ohm resistor
50K Ohn Potentiometer (or 1K Ohm and 10K Ohn resistor to test each)
Capacitor (electrolytic) – 10uF ONE
555 IC
LED – two in number

You simply need to join the components in the way shown in circuit diagram. If you feel difficulty with the “icons” or “symbols” of the components, you can web search with symbols used in electronic circuits. As potentiometer is a variable resistor, we can change the value by simply rotating it. You may keep the knob at middle to start with and try rotating in left and right direction to see the changes. As you will rotate the potentiometer, the speed of alternate blinking will vary from very fast to slowest.

Now, a beginner in electronics wanting to learn in-depth should understand the basic which is working behind this circuit which starts from understanding 555 IC. It is beyond our scope to go in to details.

These kind of usage of IC is common in various decorative things made for the consumers including children, festival purposes. It is possible to make this basic circuit to “Christmas Light”, however we have other ICs for creating more advanced effects.
