Fiber Optic Fusion Splicers Join the Single Core Optical Fiber to Fuse a Single Core Each Time. Single Core Optical Fiber Used in Different Purposes. Fibre optic joints or terminations are made either by creating a temporary joint or splices (which creates a permanent joint). In both cases, low loss, minimal reflectance and high mechanical strength are the parameters to judge. There are two types of splices and numerous ways to deploy them.

How the Fiber Optic Fusion Splicers Work?

 

In use-cases such as for delivery of broadband connection to home, we need optical fiber cable, splice tray, connectors ending to the router. The router is the first consumer-grade component in networking. The fiber optic fusion splicers are not regular tools to buy. They cost from $3000 to $7000 per unit, demands other tools and intended for professional usage in the field.

A fiber optic fusion splicer is a box-like instrument with lid like arrangement, display and buttons. It uses an electric arc to melt the two cut-ends of the optical fibers together to form a single fiber ensuring very little loss of optical light signals while in action. For this purpose, the cleaned cut ends of the fibers are placed into a clip system holder inside the splicer. The fiber optic fusion splicer involves 3 steps and can be seen in a magnified form on the display screen. The machine uses multiple motors to adjustments to the fibers’ positions to properly align. Many of the fusion splicers have in-built cleaning system which runs before fusing. The machine as the last step melts the glass and joins. Splices demand placement in a protective case which usually a splice tray inside a splice closure or a patch panel box.
